ELMS: A missed opportunity for Duqueine Team at Spa-Francorchamps
24 August 2026 – The fourth round of the European Le Mans Series took place this weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Despite some strong performances (including, amongst others, another pole position for Giorgio Roda), a safety car cost the #30 Duqueine Team LMP2 a place on the podium. The car had to settle for 5th place in the PRO/AM class.
Free practice
On Friday, the #30 LMP2, driven by Richard Verschoor, Doriane Pin and Giorgio Roda, finished third in Free Practice 1. Later that day, Giorgio Roda again finished third in the practice session for Bronze drivers.
The following day, the crew kept a slightly lower profile during free practice 3. The #30 car finished 6th in its class.
Qualifying
On Saturday morning, Giorgio Roda once again secured pole position in the class with a fastest lap of 2:03.578, giving the #30 car the top spot on the starting grid.
Race
On Sunday, Giorgio Roda got off to a good start and put in a solid first stint. The race was marked by numerous incidents on the track and several safety car deployments. The #30 held the lead for the first half of the race.
As Roda’s stint drew to a close, another incident occurred and the #30 remained on the track – a decision that would prove costly for the rest of the race.
At the halfway point, Giorgio Roda pitted and Richard Verschoor took the wheel. The #30 was handed a 5-second penalty and rejoined the race in 9th place in the class.
Richard Verschoor and Doriane Pin nevertheless managed to drive the car back up to 5th place in the final standings.
A reaction from Fabien Lavergne, Team Manager
“In terms of pure performance, this has been our best race weekend so far. The team has taken a real step forward and the drivers were very happy with the car’s set-up. In the race, we had a good first stint and led for quite a long time, but we missed an opportunity to pit during a safety car period, and that dropped us to the back of the field. The drivers did a good job of fighting their way back up the field and securing points.”
The title still within reach
Currently fourth in the PRO/AM standings, the #30 car is only around ten points behind the leader. The Verschoor/Pin/Roda trio therefore remain very much in the title race.
